Sri Lankan Fabrication Plant Boosts Welding Accuracy by 20% with High-Flatness HR Sheets

Sri Lankan Fabrication Plant Boosts Welding Accuracy by 20% with High-Flatness HR Sheets

2025-10-06

Sri Lanka’s mechanical fabrication sector—including warehouse racking systems, port equipment, agricultural machinery, and welded structures—requires stable, high-flatness hot rolled sheets. Local factories frequently face problems such as poor plate flatness, distortion after cutting, and porosity during welding, resulting in inconsistent assembly and high rework rates.

A major fabrication plant in Colombo Industrial Zone approached us seeking a more reliable material supply. After understanding their laser cutting requirements, welding procedures, and production volumes, we delivered 4×40HQ containers of Hot Rolled Steel Sheet (1.8–20 mm, 1219 × 2439 mm).

These HR sheets undergo advanced leveling, surface cleaning, and stress-relief treatment, ensuring excellent cutting stability and weldability.

The material was used to manufacture:

  • Heavy-duty machinery bases

  • Structural beams for industrial facilities

  • Load-bearing frames

  • Fabricated box components

The customer reported that laser cutting produced clean edges without warping, and welding results showed fewer pores and smoother joints. Dimensional accuracy of finished products improved by 20–22%, and rework was significantly reduced.

Their production manager commented: “This batch of HR sheet helped us finish a major export order ahead of schedule—something we’ve never achieved before.”
